Wyoming Senator Eric Barlow has put his hat in the ring for Governor. He posted on his Eric Barlow "Riding for Wyoming" Facebook page that he has never wavered in his pro-life convictions. So, we thought we would examine his twelve-year voting record and see if his claims as a pro-life legislator have merit.
Barlow came into the House of Representatives in 2013, becoming Chairman of the House Labor, Health & and Social Services Committee in 2017 and 2018. In 2019 and 2020 he served as Majority Floor Leader and Speaker of the House in 2021 and 2022.
Here are some of his no votes:
2013
HB 0097 No Abortion after Heartbeat – Voted against.
2015
HB 156 Abortion-ultrasound information – Voted against.
2024
SF 108 Protecting Water from Chemical Abortion Waste – Voted against.
Here are some of his yes votes:
2017
HB 182 Abortion-ultrasound Information – Voted in favor.
2019
HB 103 Reporting of Abortions – Voted in favor.
2022
HB 0098 Abortion prohibition - Supreme Court Decision – Voted against the bill in committee, voted in favor of the bill on the floor.

Recently, he issued a response on his Facebook page to the Wyoming Supreme Court on their ruling that abortion is healthcare.
"As Governor, my commitment will be to steady leadership—listening to Wyoming people, respecting the courts, and working to ensure access to healthcare while upholding the principles of constitutional governance. In moments like this, Wyoming is best served by leaders who lower the temperature, respect one another, and focus on the well-being of our people. As Governor, I look forward to advancing a pro-life agenda with the respect and compassion that we all expect of our leaders."
However, during his leadership in the House as Chairman of Health and Labor and as Speaker of the House, various pro-life bills were never introduced for consideration by the Legislature.
Did Senator Barlow have an epiphany on the sanctity of life, hopefully so. Or was it political motivation? The reader can be the judge.
