The Open Range Record has surpassed 1.5 million views on Facebook alone, marking a significant milestone for the Wyoming news and opinion publication.
Facebook’s Insights dashboard reports 1,500,474 views from January 1 through October 13. That figure covers Facebook only and does not include readership on The Open Range Record’s website or activity on other platforms. David Iverson, managing editor of The Open Range Record, credited the publication’s writers and contributors for its success.
“All of the credit goes to our amazing staff. They truly represent what our advertisements say: Wyoming people writing stories that are important to Wyoming,” Iverson said. “Our writers, Dawn Marquardt, Laura Pavey, Tina Johnson, Patricia McCoy, Darcie Gudger, M.J. Keaton, all of our other contributors and our copy editor Diane Pendergraft are what make The Open Range Record a success.”
That connection to Wyoming is central to the publication’s purpose. Its writers bring their own experiences, perspectives, and community ties to subjects that affect the people who live here.
From legislative votes and campaign claims to county spending and the use of taxpayer dollars, The Open Range Record examines decisions that deserve public attention. Alongside that reporting, its opinion pieces and reader contributions give Wyoming voices a place in the conversation. The outlet strives for something unique in today’s media: news on the news page and opinion on the opinion page.
The publication’s approach rests on a straightforward idea: readers should have the opportunity to examine the record for themselves. What did an official say? How did that official vote? Where did the money go? Do the explanations match the documents?
Facebook helps bring that work to a wider audience. Each shared article gives another reader an opportunity to consider what is happening in their community and state. The reported total measures views, rather than individual people; more than 1.5 million views nevertheless marks a substantial milestone for the publication’s presence on a single platform.
For The Open Range Record, it is also an opportunity to thank the readers who share articles, contribute letters, offer story tips, and keep asking questions. Their participation helps the work of its writers travel farther.
Behind the number are the people who make the publication possible: a dedicated staff, contributing writers and readers who care about Wyoming’s future--Wyoming people writing stories that are important to Wyoming
More than 1.5 million Facebook views later, that remains the purpose of The Open Range Record.
