Growing up in a Catholic family, I remember celebrating Easter with secular traditions. We would wake up to an early Easter egg hunt (eggs, candy and small treats) followed by Sunday church and a large family dinner to round out the day. This was done in great abundance and usually a fair amount of chaos. Many years later, Christian faith has played a larger role in my life. The celebration of Easter is so much more than egg hunts and candy.
After reading Matthew 27:62-28:10; in the bible from Dr. David Jeremiah, he refers to this as the Seven Signs of Easter: Proof of the Resurrection, there are three that have stayed close to my heart.
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to the tomb where Christ was laid to rest. This shows that all people were, and are, children of God, regardless of their background or wealth.
The empty tomb is the enduring symbol of the Resurrection of Christ. The miracle of the stone being rolled away – with an approximate weight of one-and-a-half to two tons. It is mentioned that Mary Magdalene noticed that the stone was not in place – it had been moved out of the groove and was some distance away. Another miracle.
The last event is the one of disbelief among the disciples. Thomas said he would not believe Jesus had risen from the dead unless he would see the scars for himself. Jesus graciously said, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands, and reach your hand here and put it into My side” (John 20:27). Once again, proof of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
I could write a short novel about the glory of Easter. In closing, I pray that you and your loved ones have a blessed day. Please give thanks and praise to the Lord our Father for sacrificing his only son for our sins. As Jesus Christ said on the cross, “It is finished.”
