The follically blessed opinionnaire Rod Miller recently attempted to channel Goldwater's definition of 'conservatives' as those who “provide for each citizen a maximum of freedom of choice”, and then traveled the same worn path of bashing “the other conservatives”.
To paraphrase Webster's definition: Conservatives preserve what's established across society; our institutions, family, religion, class structure and resist sudden change.
Given Rod's definition, conservatives should avoid centralized power and emphasize freedom of choice. Should we eliminate prisons, police, the courts or other centralized authority? Taxpayer funded entities can choose whatever feels good? If a school library wants an isle packed with porno magazines, so be it and the heck with old fashioned norms? We're now free of consequences to maximize choice, even in life and death ... at ANY age.
Hyperbolic? Today, yes. Tomorrow?
Maybe a third of our state’s citizens follow Webster's definition. You know; the gun clingers, church goers, dirty finger-nailed taxpayers--the deplorables, those hoi polloi now banished from holding nearly any level of representation. I wonder, is that good governance to erase representation for a third of the State? For Mr. Miller and so many others, why not? POWER!
We see the chaos churning across neighbor states, especially Colorado. There's no moral right or wrong, everything's relative. Do we really believe Wyoming's impervious and will remain immune to this insanity? The current blue/purple wave rolling into Cheyenne encompasses both the executive and legislative branches. I fear too many love this stuff.
Looking at primary election data, our current state ratio of republican ballots cast to democrat ballots is 10:1 for 2026. It's high was 30:1 in Liz/Harriet's 2022 when democrats crossed over joining the republican party en masse to vote for Liz. Before the dems jumped ship, the ratio was a steady 1:4-5ish for years. With the current 10:1 ratio, conservatives should absolutely dominate our state! Not even close.
Sorry, there's not ten Rush Limbaugh type conservative ballots cast for every democrat ballot. Everybody's a republican of any and all stripes. It's fashionable and where the power is. Thus, Wyoming's term 'republican' is swiftly becoming meaningless.
Naw, I like the Webster definition, the one we're all grounded in across the centuries. Conservatives conserve, protect, cherish cultural norms, the family unit, morality, decency, self-sufficiency. They resist sudden change.
I'm not buying Rod's spin; it's just a means to pump Eric and dump on Rebecca. Left-republican good, right-republican bad. The same scam runs through a dozen other pundits across our state--the gazzillionaire PACs and endless commentators.
With so many piled on the left side of the teeter-totter heading to Cheyenne, there's little balance being offered. I'm a moderate conservative. I crave balance with broad representation at the table. So many pundits scream at me to vote for Eric - I'm looking more and more towards Rebecca. We need at least one brake on this crazy train to utopia.
